Meeting with Liberal Leadership Candidate Alex Burton

Posted on November 12, 2012

On Sunday November 11, Alex Burton and his team pulled into town in a motor home for the Kingston stop on his cross-Canada campaign odyssey. A crown prosecutor and president of the Vancouver Kingsway Liberal riding association, Alex became the fourth Liberal leadership candidate to take us up on our offer to host meet-and-greet sessions with our members. Some 20 of us came out to the Red House on King Street East to meet Alex over a tasty lunch, hear him speak about his policy positions and why he’s running, and of course pepper him with questions.

Alex speaks easily and well without notes. While his talking points and answers to our questions branded him as a social justice Liberal, he also demonstrated a strong practical side and a breadth of policy positions. His core positions include:

• A just and secure society;
• Democratic reform and respect for Parliament;
• Economic renewal;
• Restoring Canada’s place in the world;
• Creating opportunities for Canadians; and
• Rebuilding a strong Liberal Party from the ground up.
